Brief Description:

This course provides a quick review of whole numbers and order of operations. Introducing integers with applications and problem solving methods. Introductions to polynomial expressions and operations with such expressions by using exponential rules. Extensive review of fractions and rational expressions revisiting order of operations with such numbers. Solving linear equations with applications and translating word problems to equations. Decimals, percents, ratios, proportions, and measurements along with application problems and equations are among topics for this course. An introduction to graphing linear equations in rectangular coordinate system.  Geometry topics such as perimeter, area, volume, similar geometric shapes, and Pythagorean theorem are introduced throughout this course. 

 

Prerequisite:

Acceptable level of skill demonstrated in the Mathematics Placement Process.

Required Materials: 1) Textbook: Pre-Algebra,

                   Third Edition By Carson

2) Calculator: Calculator can not be used for selected chapters.
