Brief Description:

 Quick review of the real numbers, properties of such numbers along with the Order of Operations. Simplify algebraic expressions along with Solving linear equations and inequalities and learn on different techniques on solving application problems and system of linear equations by graphing method. Graph linear equations in two variables on rectangular coordinate system and study of slopes and its application. Perform operations with polynomials, exponential rules, and factoring. Working comprehensively with rational expressions and equations. Perform operations with radical expressions.  Solve quadratic equation by the square root, completing the square methods and Quadratic formula.

Student Learning Objectives:

  1. Master concepts, content, and skills to be successful in subsequent mathematical studies.

  2. Develop the ability to reason analytically, deductively, logically, and critically.

  3. Understand and apply mathematical modeling.

  4. Develop greater confidence in their mathematical abilities.

  5. Gain an appreciation for the purpose and usefulness of mathematics.

 

Prerequisite:

Acceptable level of skill demonstrated in the Mathematics Placement Process.

Required Materials: 1) Textbook: Beginning & Intermediate Algebra

                      4th Edition by Elayn Martin-Gay

2) Calculator: any scientific or graphing calculator
